Excited Mad Lib

Today for programming, I made a Mad Lib using JavaScript.  First go try my Mad Lib here, then I'll tell you how I did it.

Did you do the Mad Lib?  Post your story as a comment!

Here's what I did:

First I wrote the correct mad lib.  Then I wrote it on the computer like this:

"var" means variable, which is some text or a number.  "prompt" will open a window to ask you for information.

After getting the vars, you must tell the computer the other words you wrote for the story.  If you don't write it, it won't work.  At then end "document.write" tells the computer to write the story on the webpage.

Here is my story:

How was your story?  Do you think your story was good?  Or funny?  Do you think you can do all this? If you are better than me and you wrote a long story please tell me.

learning dreams''''A.B

Today, I wrote a lot of things that I want to be good at. We were talking about how to learn things. First, I needed to think about what I want to learn.

Here is my list of things I would like to be good at:

  • Animal science
  • Art - painting, drawing
  • Gardening - flowers, fruits, vegetables
  • Programming - make websites, make apps, talk to robots
  • Build a house
  • Music - flute, violin, piano, drums
  • Languages - Japanese, French, Cantonese, Italian, German
  • Being a doctor
  • Fighting
  • Ice skating
  • Baking
  • Designing clothes
So what do you want to learn? Do you want to learn the same things I want to learn? If yes, send me a comment. So pick three of them that you think are so good to learn.

I want to pick:
  1. Animal science
  2. Designing clothes
  3. Japanese
  4. Fighting
I get to pick four because the fighting helps me with bullies and people who say disgusting things to me. I like the first one because I like animals. I like the second one because I like designing clothes. I like the third one because my mom can speak Japanese and Japan is my favorite country.

Also, one thing I don't like for animal science is Adam says the first we have to test is WORMS! and worms are my least favorite animal. Also, Adam said that we might cut worms into pieces to see what is inside.

One thing I don't like for designing clothes is we might use a needle so we need to be careful.

One thing I don't like about Japanese is that it might be hard to remember what is what.

One thing I don't like about fighting is it hurts and Adam might say: "RILEY is a bully!" So I will punch him more.

What should I pick to learn first? If you want to tell me, you can comment! I think I should learn Japanese first.

r.play/actors

I started to write a play today. My play is about a year in a magic school. I need to find actors to be the characters in my play.

Actors wanted!

I need actors for these roles:
  • Riley - Riley is a 12 year old girl. Happy, joyful, smart, friendly, cute. Best party creator.
  • Merinea - Merina is an 11 year old girl. Smart, talkative, happy, joyful, pretty.
  • Adam - 13 year old boy. Less smart, really handsome, big and strong, no beard. Kind of stupid.
  • Miss Joy - So joyful. 28 year old lady. Pretty, smart, talks so fast.
If you want to be in my play, you should comment on this post and tell me which part you want. Maybe my Laura can do it. Can you, Laura? Tell me which character you want to be.

Do you think you can do this challenge? Do you think you can be as happy, as joyful, as smart, as friendly, as cute, best-party-creator as Riley? If you think you can do this, then give yourself a round of applause.

So, try making your own play and try doing with your family all day! Now, give yourself another round of applause, but today you need to do a lot better with your applause, just like doing a play. Today you don't know how to spell, tomorrow you will will quickly say "apple." That's how babies work too. Today you don't know one thing, tomorrow you know it already. That's all the practice friends give you all that power. If you don't practice, you don't have a practice power. But if you practice a lot, the practice power will go on and on.

One word I used to know that I made up is "try keep power up tomorrow a big surprise."
:)

Try your best!

In a Fantasy Land

Adam and I went to a magical land.  First, I had a picnic with Starlilly

Then I went flying on her back.  We flew with other birds too!

I found my friend Rilabunny.  She's my twin.  Wow!  Isn't she cooler than Adam?

So funny!  I almost got eaten by my friend Dino T-Rex.

Adam didn't do a lot in there.  He's not happy.  But he's happy with just having a minion friend.

Isn't the day fun?  Tell you what.  This all pretend!  Do you know what happened?

We got some of my toys and when we took the pictures, we made the toys look bigger than they used to be.  And we made them look like we are holding hands or riding on them.  You can try at home too.  You can try at the outside because inside doesn't look very good.  Doesn't that make you feel happy if you see some not real pictures that look exactly like you're in a fantasy land?

Which picture do you like the best?  Maybe someday you will make friends with the transformers or go swimming with mermaids or catch a mermaid on the beach.  Your dreams will come true when you look at the pictures.

Hope you will have a good day in Fantasy Land!

.r.a.c Solar Power Car .r.a.c

.r.a.c means a company that I made.  It also means "Riley Adam, Cici."  .r.a.c made two solar-powered cars.

We made cars before, but this car is different because there is no battery (or switch).  Instead, the car has a solar cell that gets energy from the sun.  So if you put in car under the sun, the car will move until it goes into the shade.

The solar cell changes the sunlight (a kind of energy) into electricity (a kind of energy).  The electricity makes the motor move (another kind of energy).  There is a gear with the motor and the axle to make the car go.  The gear is a kind of machine that gives us mechanical advantage that we talked about last week.

In this video, we can see .r.a.c testing the car.  The car goes in the sun, then stops when we put a shadow on it. .a (Adam) said it was a race, but .r (Riley) said it's not a race because we're just testing them.  .r thinks this kind of boy always want to race.  And she also thinks that this kind of boy always wants to win.

Solar-powered cars have both pros and cons.

Pros
  • They don't waste energy
  • Don't need to carry a battery
Cons
  • Can't drive at night.

Going to Japan

The day after tomorrow, I'm going to Japan with Mom.  First we will go on a plane.  Then we will visit our hotel.  Maybe we will go out and eat or do other things, but most of the time we will sleep and play in the hotel until it's nighttime.

The next day, we will go out and find some fun place, and there's the biggest toy store in Japan, so we can go there.  We are going stay there for five nights, so we will come back on the sixth day.  On the third and fourth days, or fourth and fifth days, Mommy and I are going to the hot spring.  We are planning to go to Japan's hot spring for months and months and months.  And now, the time has arrived!

We started planning a long time ago when I was still in school.  This is a storyboard of half of two of my days in Japan.  I didn't do everything because I couldn't make a hot springs picture.  So I just did half of it.

I made lots of things to do on the plane.  And packed lots of things to write a journal.  For example, pencil and even papers!  Isn't that funny?  Most of the hotels have paper.  I hope you hope I will have a good time.  If you hope I will have a good time, read everything I've ever written on my blog right now!

My Lighting Heart

Today, we made hearts that glow.  First we used the hot glue gun to make a heart shape.  We needed to make it really fat, so we had to add glue, let it cool, then add more.  I think we used three-and-a-half glue sticks.

Then we took a red LED light and made a hole in the back of the heart for it to go in.  We used a little watch battery for power, then we used magnets to connect the wires from the light to the battery.  When we completed the circuit, the light made the whole heart glow red.  It looked beautiful!

Then I got more little magnets, and used them to stick the heart on my clothes.  I put a magnet inside my dress, then I put the heart on the outside.  This makes it stick without falling, because the magnets are really strong.  I did the same thing with a real butterfly!

You can make circles and glue them to anywhere.  You can make any shape!

North South

Today, Adam brought some magnets and I tried to use them to stick butterflies to my dress.  I used a very little, very strong magnet and put in on the inside of my dress, then I put the butterfly magnet on the outside.  But sometimes the magnet pushed the butterfly away.

This is because magnets have a north pole and a south pole.  The north pole wants to be friends with the south pole.  The south pole wants to be friends with the north pole.  But two north poles or two south poles don't want to be friends and push each other away.  Because you don't want to be friends with yourself.

Then we talked about the Earth's north and south poles.  If you take a magnet, its north pole wants to point towards Earth's North Pole!  That means that the North Pole is actually the south pole of Earth-magnet.

Earth doesn't just have one north pole.  It has a Geographic North Pole at very top of earth (the point the earth rotates around).  And it also has a North Magnetic Pole, which is where magnets point towards.  They are close together, but not in the same place.

The North Magnetic Pole isn't always in the same place.  Every 100,000 to 1 million years, the Earth-magnet switches its north and south.  The North Magnetic Pole also moves around a bit every year.

We wanted to figure out what north pole Santa lives at.  If he lived at North Magnetic Pole, he would need to move his entire house and workshop and reindeer and sleigh and workers to another place all the time.  So if you were Santa, how hard do you think it would me to move your entire life?

Stupid New Words for Stupid

I always tell Adam, "You're a stupid stupid man."  Adam said, "BORING!  Think of some different words instead of using the same word all the time."

Then we went to look in a Thesaurus, which gives us lists of words that mean the same thing.  Words with the same meaning are called Synonyms.

First we looked for synonyms for stupid.  There are lots of them and they are all adjectives.  My favorite ones are:
  1. idiotic
  2. unintelligent
  3. moronic
  4. dumb
  5. dense
Then we looked synonyms for idiot.  These are all nouns.  My favorites are:
  1. pinhead
  2. ignoramus
  3. imbecile
  4. nitwit
  5. moron
I don't know which of these words I should use for Adam.  Maybe all?

Adam is an idiotic pinhead.  He always wakes up at night and goes to bed in the morning.  He is unintelligent ignoramus.  He always eats everywhere even on other people, especially good girls.  He is a moronic imbecile.  He always looks up at the sky when he is walking and bumps into everywhere.  He's a dumb, dense nitwit-moron.  He even can make your little cute animals' home earthquake.  Adam is 12345 12345 all of them.

I think use all!  And I'll tell you a secret.  Adam's playing for fun phone number is 12345 12345.  You can guess why.

Captain Dino's Adventure Through the Water

Today we made a different kind of boat than we made before.  A few weeks ago we made a boat that moves by using a fan to push air backwards.

We needed empty plastic water bottles for the boat, but our bottles were full of water, so Cici and I raced Adam to see who could finish their bottle first.  Adam lost because he is super super so-so.

We made holes in the bottles so we could put an axle through the middle.  Then we put a big red disc in the middle, and put paddles on each end.  The popsicle sticks push the water so the boat will go:
Look the dinosaur is being a captain on the boat.

Then we made our circuit with a battery, a switch, and a motor.  We had to make sure we connected the wires so that the motor would make the boat go forward instead of backward.  The motor uses a rubber band help the paddles have a stronger force.  The motor has to go around 9 times to make the paddle go around 1 time.  This is a kind of mechanical advantage.
This is the rubber band that takes energy from the motor and sends it to the paddles.

We put a little toy dinosaur on the boat for fun.  Then we went outside to try the boat in the water.
It's almost time for Captain Dino to have a ride.
Ta-da!  The boat went really well.  It moved and it didn't sink.  But the dinosaur did not have a good time.  He fell in the water, I ran home to get a net, and Cici saved him.
Captain Dino is on the way to the island.

Do you want to know what happened to Captain Dino?  He sunk, but someone saved him.  He still has a chance to go to the island.  I don't know when Captain Dino will have an adventure with us again.

First Fairytale Chapter Book

I decided to make a chapter book.  I'm going to put it on my website, which goes to my blog that you are reading now!

We first brainstormed lots of ideas for what our book could be about.  Our ideas for the story were:
These are some of my ideas for the story.

Then I picked the three ideas a liked most.  They were:

  • Deep Sea Adventure
  • Riley's Magic First Day of Year 3
  • Riley and the Lost Turtle
Then I wrote some ideas for characters for each of the stories I am maybe going to write:
These are the characters I wrote for the story.  My finger is pointing at the story I chose.

I thought about the different ideas, and decided to write about Deep Sea Adventure.  I chose this idea because I wanted to chose that idea before I wrote all the other ideas.  I got the idea from a video that I saw a week ago, but the story I imagine is different.

Then I made a plan for the different chapters I'm going to write:
These are my chapter ideas.  My finger is pointing at my favorite chapter.

This is my rough draft for the first chapter, "Princess's First Day on the Boat."
This is my first chapter.  My four fingers mean this part I like the most.

I have just written two chapters.  Tomorrow, I'm going to work on Chapter 3.

I think I'll finish writing the book in a week or two.  I'm going to draw pictures for my book too.  You'll be able to read my book on my website that goes to my blog that you are reading now!  Haha!  :7

Pop Out Pretty Snow

Today we made a pretty snow fan.  Last week, we were looking for things to buy on Taobao and saw a cool snow fan:

But instead of buying the kit, we decided to make our own snow fan with our own materials.

The materials we used were:
  • Battery
  • Wires
  • Double switch
  • Motor and fan
  • LED light
  • Glass jar
  • Shiny/ stickers
  • Colorful /feathers
  • Cardboard
  • Snow from styrofoam
  • Box
  • Hot glue gun
  • Soldering iron

First we made a lid for the jar by cutting a piece of cardboard and made a small hole in the middle for the motor.  Then we made our snow by breaking piece of styrofoam.  Then we tested the motor and fan.  It was good so we used the hot glue gun to glue the lid and motor to the jar.

Then we made a small hole in the cardboard for our light and put a light in.  Last week, we saw that a parallel (Princess Vecelina) circuit worked better than a series circuit when we had two different things we want to turn on.  So we decide to make our snow fan as a parallel circuit, with one switch for the fan and another for the light.

Then we set up the circuit and made sure everything worked.  Then Adam used the soldering iron to stick the metal parts together.  The soldering iron was kind of scary for me and cool because it gets very hot and it also made some smoke when it melted the wire.

Then we put everything into a box and cut the box so everything fit.  We used the hot glue gun to stick everything together in the box.

We turned on both switches and the light went on and the fan started blowing the snow and decorations round and round and round and round until you're dizzy!  I think it's pretty and more creative than the thing we could buy on Taobao.

These are stickers we put on the outside.

This is the inside of the box where our battery and wires are.

This is the side with our drawing on the lid, as well as our motor, light, and switch.

This is what it looks like from the inside when it's on.

R C means my first letter, my brother's first letter, and a heart:)

It looks even prettier in the dark!

You can try the snow fan yourself.  Remember you can add as many decorations as you want.

Warning:  Don't let little kids do the hot glue gun or especially the soldering iron.  Let the adults to that.  Still, you need to be careful!

Cat Girl and the Little Deer

In the deep deep forest, there lived a cat girl.  She lived alone in a small cave.  One day she decided to go out and find someone to live with.

She went out and saw a wooden door.
She never saw it before.
She opened the door.

And saw a little deer.  She picked up the deer and said, “Where is your family?”

The deer said, “I don’t have a family.”

The girl said, “Hmmmmm…ah!  I’m alone too.  You can stay with me.  I can adopt you.”

“Oh, thank you!” said the deer.  Then they went home, baked some cupcakes, and went to sleep.

the   raindeer is    called    /slashia 5
the girl is called lashia6

The girl is a cat girl that is from my imaginary country.

Riley and Adam's . -..- -.-. .. - .. -. --. Morse Code Adventure #2

Today we made our own Morse Code machine.  The materials we used were:
  • Press switch
  • LED light
  • Buzzer
  • Most important thing - the battery
  • A piece of cardboard
  • Wires
  • Electrical tape
  • Our hands
First we talked about two different ways to make a circuit:

Series - In a series circuit the current has one path that goes through the light and the buzzer one after the other.

Parallel - In a parallel circuit, the current has separate paths, one with the light and one with the buzzer.

Then we took our materials and made a circuit.  First we tried just the light, and when we pressed the switch, the light was very bright:

Then made a circuit with just the buzzer, and the buzzer was very loud.

Then we made a circuit with the light and buzzer in series.  When we pressed the switch, the light was very dim and the buzzer had no sound:

Then we made a circuit with the light and buzzer in parallel.  When we pressed the switch, the light was very bright and the buzzer was very loud:

For our Morse Code machine, the parallel circuit worked much better.  We can use the machine to send Morse Code messages.

If you want, you can shine the light on your face when you're taking a picture.  It makes your face prettier.

And, um...
.. / -.. --- -. - / -.- -. --- .--

Adam says:  The light hurts my eyes and the buzzer hurts my ears :((

I Don't Know - A Poem

I don't know how to sleep.
I don't know how to eat.
Everything I don't know is something that we need.

I don't know how to draw.
I don't know how to run.
I don't know I don't know everything.

I don't know my friend.
I don't know my name.
I don't know I don't know everything I see.

I don't know how to walk.
And don't know how to talk.
If you were like this then it's a problem.

I don't know everything.
Oh please come teach me.
I really want to know it.

Teach me how to sleep.
Teach me how to eat.
Teach me how to draw and run.

Teach me how to say my name.
Teach me how to know my friend.
Teach me everything I see.

Teach me how to walk.
Teach me how to talk.
If you teach me then there's no problem.

Here's me reading my poem.  I don't know how to read!

I don't know what I should say next.  Oh, I know now.  I should say...  Bye-bye!

A Maldives Shell Adventure ;-)

We had a wonderful adventure in the Maldives.  We took a boat to our house and we sat on the bed to rest.  Dad said there was some soup for us to eat, so we ate some soup and went to sleep.

The second day was the first day that we played.  We went on a boat to go to the island and have breakfast.  When we went out of our house, I was very confused and scared because I thought I saw an octopus under our house.  So I ran to the boat and waited for it to arrive to the island.  We got off the boat and went to the restaurant.  It was kind of small and didn't have too many foods, but it was still good.  I ate crepes and sushi and porridge.  I ate and ate and when my crepe came, I saw there was no banana, but I ate it anyway.

After that, I went to the pool then went to play in the sand.  We went to the ocean and picked a lot of sea shells.  These sea shells are pretty and they are all real!

I put all the sea shells in a container.

This is one of the sea shells.

This sea shell is special.  Look at the pattern on it!

Do you know..the Maldives ocean makes the sea shells very white.

Riley and Adam's ..-. ..- -. Morse Code Adventure #1

Yesterday, we tried to make a machine that could send messages using radio.  But we couldn't get it to work.

So instead, we made a machine with a button.  The button is a press switch.  You press the button and it makes a beeping sound and turns on a light.

We can use the machine to send Morse code messages.  More codes uses long and short sounds to make letters.  This is the Morse code alphabet:

If we want to figure out what a Morse code message means, we can use the tree below to find out.  If you hear a short sound ("dit"), you go to the left.  If you hear a long sound ("dah") you go to the right.  When you go to the left, then hear a long sound, follow the long line down to the right.  So if you hear "dit dah dit," you follow the tree and see that makes the letter R.

We wrote some messages using Morse code.  See if you can figure out what these codes mean.  There is a space between each letter and a slash between each word.  Hint:  Use the tree above.

  1. .. / .-.. --- ...- . / -.-. ..- - . / .--. . - ...
  2. -... . ... - / -.. .- -.-- / . ...- . .-.
  3. .. / .-.. --- ...- . / -. .- .-. -. .. .-
You can try writing a Morse code message to me!

My Lovely Pet Shop

I made these using special paper.  You get a special pen then you scratch the paper and there are patterns and colors underneath.

I made a pet shop advertisement using these papers:

My first animal is the Rabsaur.  A Rabsaur is half rabbit and half dinosaur.  It eats carrots, meat and sugar.  It also can swim and talk and dance.  And you can teach every animal some things so they can be more powerful.

My second animal is Dolphinbutter.  A Dolphinbutter is a dolphin that can fly, that is half dolphin, half butterfly.  Its food is honey mixed with fish soup.  It can fly, swim, and talk.

The last animal is sort of not an animal.  It's called a Vampifairy.  It is half vampire, half fairy.  It's friendly to good people and bad to bad people.  Vampifairy food is leaves or flowers.  It's new!  It's the best pet in the store.  It can fly and drink blood, and it also can do magic!

The next animal that is not yet born is called Stegorex.  It is half stegosaurus and half T-rex.  I'll tell you about it when it comes.

Come to my pet store to see if you want a magical pet.
